The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) is a nationally-funded core facility supported by the Canada Foundation for Innovation (CFI) Major Science Initiatives (MSI) program, Genome Canada (GC), and other funding agencies. It possesses a unique combination of infrastructure and personnel to conduct a wide range of cutting-edge metabolomic studies for biomarker discovery, biological studies, exposomics, clinical trials research, biomedical studies, bioproducts studies, agriproduct research, nutrient profiling, and environmental testing. It operates on a cost-recovery model, utilizing the funds received, user fees collected, and university support.
The platform comprises Dr. Liang Li (University of Alberta), Dr. David Wishart (University of Alberta), Dr. Christoph Borchers (McGill University), Dr. David Goodlett (University of Victoria), Dr. James Harynuk (University of Alberta), Dr. Philip Britz-McKibbin (McMaster University), Dr. Jeff Xia (McGill University), Dr. Dajana Vuckovic (Concordia University), and Dr. Tao Huan (University of British Columbia).

TMIC has access to more than $30 million in state-of-the-art metabolomics infrastructure.
It is supported by a team of lab managers, NMR spectroscopists, mass spectrometrists, chemists, computer scientists, statisticians and bioinformaticians.
TMIC is capable of identifying and quantifying up to 2000 different chemicals from certain biological samples.
This is approximately 5X more comprehensive than any other service currently available.
