A funded postdoctoral scientist research position is available in metabolomics to objectively assess dietary and smoke exposures relevant to population health at McMaster University. The Britz-McKibbin laboratory at McMaster University (https://britz.mcmaster.ca/) is a member of The Metabolomics Innovation Centre (TMIC) and is focused on applying high throughput methodologies for biomarker discovery using multiplexed capillary electrophoresis-mass spectrometry technology. This position involves an exciting multidisciplinary project related to the assessment of dietary, tobacco smoke and other exposures on clinical events in a prospective cohort of participants from 14 countries with colleagues at the PHRI Population Health Research Institute in Hamilton, ON, Canada

Research Technician

The Wishart lab group and the Wishart Node of The Metabolomics Innovation Center (TMIC) at the University of Alberta’s Chemistry Department is a world leader in metabolomic research. We are currently seeking a full-time research Technician specializing in mass spectrometry (MS). The successful candidate will have proven experience in analytical chemistry or a related field and must have practical experience using ICP-MS, LC-MS and GC-MS. The incumbent will be responsible for supporting metabolomics services to private and public sector users. The individual will execute and troubleshoot activities following Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) related to metabolomics service work and method development in collaboration with other researchers. The individual will also update and prepare SOPs for analytical instruments and assays for supervisor’s approval.

Operations Manager is responsible for providing corporate, partner relations and managerial leadership to ensure the long-term success of TMIC, which includes oversight of administration, research compliance and reporting, TMIC’s financial resources and human resources. The Operations Manager is a member of TMIC’s Executive Committee and works closely with the TMIC Board of Directors, the Dean of Science and the TMIC Node Leaders. The position is responsible for building and maintaining links to the broader TMIC user community, currently including 2 major stakeholder funders, the Canada Foundation for Innovation and Genome Canada, 4 TMIC host institutions, and over 200 other funders, clients, collaborators and donors.

We are currently seeking a full-time post-doctoral fellow in mass spectrometry (MS). The successful candidate will have proven experience in analytical chemistry or a related field and should have experience in the MS. The incumbent will be responsible for development of metabolomics methods based on LC/MS, GC/MS and ICP/MS, analyzing and interpreting MS results, and writing manuscripts.
