We are proud to congratulate Dr. Tao Huan, TMIC node leader at the University of British Columbia, on receiving the prestigious 2025 Metabolomics Society President’s Award. This award recognizes exceptional contributions to the field of metabolomics by a society member 5–10 years post-PhD, celebrating early-career excellence and impactful scientific innovation.
Dr. Tao Huan is an Associate Professor of Chemistry at the University of British Columbia and holds the Canada Research Chair in Metabolomics and Exposomics. As an analytical chemist, Dr. Huan’s research advances mass spectrometry-based metabolomics through the synergistic integration of analytical chemistry and bioinformatics. His lab develops innovative, omics-scale analytical strategies that enable high-quality metabolomics, offering deeper insight into biological mechanisms and a clearer understanding of environmental exposures.
In addition to receiving the Metabolomics Society President’s Award, Dr. Huan delivered a keynote lecture at Metabolomics 2025 (MetSoc 2025). On June 24th, he presented a talk titled “Overlooked Challenges in Quantitative Metabolomics,” highlighting critical stages in the metabolomics pipeline that are especially susceptible to quantification errors and misinterpretation. He also introduced several bioinformatics tools developed in the Huan Lab to address these challenges and improve the accuracy and reliability of mass spectrometry-based quantitative metabolomics.
